Coexistence & Tradition
The OLEL system operates alongside the Gregorian calendar, similar to how the Metric and Customary systems coexist. We do not erase tradition; we simply give it a precise scientific address. Your holidays remain exactly where they are, anchored by Solar Geometry.
| Holiday / Event | Traditional Date | Solar Coordinate (OLEL) | Scientific Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Year's Day | Jan 1 | ~ 280.4° | 10° past Winter Solstice |
| Vernal Equinox | Mar 20/21 | 000.0° | The "True" Start of Year |
| Independence Day (USA) | July 4 | ~ 102.1° | Stable Summer Coordinate |
| Halloween | Oct 31 | ~ 218.0° | Fixed Cross-Quarter Point |
| Christmas Day | Dec 25 | ~ 273.5° | 3.5° Post-Solstice |
Practical Application
Will my watch still work?
Yes. The duration of a second, minute, and hour remains scientifically constant (Atomic Time). OLEL is an "operating system" update for the calendar, but it uses the same hardware (clocks) you already own.
Daylight Savings Time?
Eliminated. Shifting clocks is a political choice, not a scientific one. In Equilibrium, time is continuous. We do not disrupt the timeline; we allow seasons to flow naturally.
What about Leap Years?
Obsolete. Leap years are a "Band-Aid" for integer-based counting. By measuring the Solar Angle (360°), the "extra" time is absorbed into decimal precision. 360° is always 360°.
Why The Traditional System is Obsolete
The Month/Moon Disconnect: The word "Month" derives from "Moon," yet the Gregorian calendar (28-31 days) ignores the lunar cycle (29.53 days) entirely. OLEL restores this connection by tracking the Moon as a percentage.
Historical Baggage: The current system was designed by the Roman Empire and Pope Gregory XIII, eras that predated modern orbital mechanics. We have exceeded their understanding and require a system based on Equilibrium, not arbitrary administration.
